Kunst und Theater. Es ist kein Geheimnis, daß John Ringling sein
Flair für Kultur und schöne Dinge in Sarasota verbreitet hat.
Die Stadt ist bis heute den Künsten gegenüber sehr aufgeschlossen
und hat eine Bandbreite von kulturellen Veranstaltungen im Angebot, die
normalerweise nur in sehr viel größeren Städten zu finden
ist. Es ist das Privileg dieser Stadt, daß man die Veranstaltungen
- sei es ein Theaterabend oder eine Matinee, eine Aufführung des
hiesigen Balletts, ein Abend in der Oper oder im Konzert - in einem angenehm
intimen Rahmen genießen kann. Das Filmangebot in den Kinos reicht
von Mainstream bis hin zu unabhängigem Film und Festivals. Und wir
haben darüber hinaus mehr als dreißig Galerien und Museen zu
bieten.
Das neue Museum of Asian Art im Stadtzentrum ist ein Juwel, den Sie sich
nicht entgehen lassen sollten. Es zeigt südostasiatische Kunst, u.
a. Skulpturen der Yangtze River Collection aus chinesischem Jade. Der
muschelförmige lila Bau der Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall glänzt
nach ausgiebigen Renovierungsarbeiten in dieser Saison in neuer Pracht
und das ständig wechselnde Repertoire des Asolo Theaters bietet eine
hervorragende Auswahl an Theaterstücken. Gleich drei Kunstgenüsse
erwarten Sie auf dem Gelände des John and Mable Ringling Museum of
Art: das Kunstmuseum, welches die bedeutenste Sammlung von Gemälden
des Malers Rubens beherbergt, das Zirkusmuseum, das Paradewagen und andere
Zirkusandenken zeigt, die Kindheitserinnerungen an Zirkusvorstellungen
wecken und die Cà d'Zan, das herrschaftliche Wohnhaus der Ringlings,
an dem zur Zeit ausgiebige Restaurationsarbeiten vorgenommen werden.
